The ideal candidate for this position will have experience providing a wide range of professional smart grid engineering services to electric power system clients. Key skills: SCADA, AMI, and other utility operational technologies, communication systems design, and distributed generation knowledge. Engagements may include distribution or transmission utilities, commercial or industrial facilities, data centers, and power plants both conventional and renewable.

Key Responsibilities
· Complete complex design, documentation, and commissioning tasks on a defined time schedule, oftentimes as part of a larger construction project, safely, and in collaboration with other engineers, technicians, and client personnel
· Assess, design, document, troubleshoot, configure, test, and commission all parts of a communication system which may include:
o Wired, wireless, and fiber optic equipment
o TCP/IP/Ethernet networking
o Cyber security requirements
o Power system equipment such as microprocessor-based relays, automated switches/breakers, remote terminal units (RTUs), data concentrators (DCs), uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs), and programmable logic controllers (PLCs)
· Prepare or evaluate tag/points lists of data to be transferred between control centers and controlled apparatus; assign and program data addressing and routing information
· Develop and implement logic and control schemes on various platforms for remote and local operation of power system equipment
· Travel to project sites to gather design information; make assessments of existing systems; provide technical advice; troubleshoot issues; and test/commission control schemes and systems
· Create, organize, and maintain clear, concise engineering documentation including design drawings, system diagrams, tag/point lists, bills of material, assessment and evaluation notes, vendor specifications, and requests for quotation/proposal
· Create comprehensive and complete technical reports at key points in a project
· Assist with proposals by making time and travel estimates for a given general scope of work
· Stay current on industry trends and best practices; independently investigate and learn about new software, equipment, and communication protocols
· Maintain and improve client relationships

Selection Criteria
Essential
· B.S. in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program
· Minimum five years of experience on utility smart grid projects as well as the ability to communicate the overall system and your involvement
· Knowledge about engineering design methods, communication technologies, and electric utility operational systems
· The ability and willingness to travel approximately 50% annually
· The ability and willingness to work extended hours to meet project deadlines
· Must have insured vehicle and be legally eligible to drive in the U.S.
· Commitment to comply with company and job site safety policies
· Must submit to background checks as a condition of employment; others may be required per specific client requirements
Desirable
· Professional Engineer (P.E.) or EIT certified (passed FE Exam) with the intent to pursue P.E. license
· Structured programming skills in high level computer and/or PLC languages
· Continuing education courses on communication systems, networking, advanced programming, computer/microcontrollers, power systems, security, protective relaying, HMI design
