JOB SUMMARY: The role provides day to day technical and compliance expertise by acting as the in-house expert, fosters global EHS collaboration, communication, and expectation while also representing the site business related to initiatives, standards, strategic planning, performance and operating expectation. The role directly leads and is accountable for performance of the following EHS functions: occupational health and safety, guest safety, fleet and watercrafts, drones, production, projects, fire prevention, training, and emergency response, while also supporting EHS team partners related to Environmental Affairs, Standards & Communications, Audit and Assurance. Role authority includes establishment of operational practices, annual strategy and resulting performance, design and acceptance, incident reporting and investigation, fire prevention, permitting, communications, quality assurance and monitoring, process rollout/changes.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Actively participates as a business partner to effectively implement, perform, evaluate, and maintain EHS processes which include but are not limited to: hazard identification and risk assessment, regulatory and EHS Standard impacts, EHS training, performance strategy and objectives, communication mechanisms, document management, recordkeeping, audits and inspections, operational control assessment, routine evaluation and QC, emergency response, incident investigation, and corrective action prescription.
  • Facilitates the timely exchange of information across divisions and within EHS to include best practices, newly identify risks, preventive and corrective measures, compliance related to regulation and internal standard. Provides technical and compliance expertise to business partners and Team Members at all levels. Continuously seeks to enhance or identify opportunities related to conformance. Ensures development and sustainment of QC methods for process and procedures, records management, and reports accuracy.
  • Leads site risk register efforts for priority and risk reduction. Communicates annual priority related to mitigation and funding in collaboration with business partners. Establishes a sense of urgency to mitigate emergent high-risk matters. Develops methods to validate prescribed controls are effective and are sustainable over time. Holds divisions accountable to temporarily mitigations while long term solutions are developed.
  • Collaborates with site leadership and EHS teams to provide guidance on short and long-term strategy to reduce incident and increase conformance which includes associated objectives, divisional action plans, metric tracking, initiatives, Team Member engagement through participation, resource needs, and effective communication strategies. Reports no less than monthly on performance against plan, opportunities for improvement, and emerging trends and regulations/Standards.
  • Supports annual financial expectation by driving implementation of strategic initiatives to achieve objectives, identifies elements of change required to support strategy, encourages site leadership teams to balance short term demands with long term benefits of strategic initiatives, fosters commitment and engagement with EHS objectives and programs.
  • Support Team Member and Business Partner satisfaction expectations by holding the site EHS team accountable to support a cohesive and aligned effort within the global and site EHS organizational structures, communicating a singular EHS vision and mission. Fosters right fit hiring, Team Member development, and sets expectation of building business partnerships. Takes lead on consistent and accurate communications with business on behalf of site EHS function.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Management/Engineering, Public Health and/or equivalent degree required.
  • Master’s Degree in a health and safety field preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 12+ years operational experience required: Directly led a diverse team of at least 20 EHS professionals with various education and experience levels within a large singular dynamic organization.
  • Recent hands-on experience conducting or directly developing incident investigations, risk assessments, audits, standards/procedures, EHS training delivery, EHS team professional and business development/growth, performance reporting (KPIs), budget development, and strategic planning and objective setting.
  • Implemented or operated an EHS program within an internationally recognized Safety Management System.
  • Active and frequent interaction at all levels of the organization from C suite to hourly employees.
  • Consistent exposure to working within groups/teams to collaborate toward solution/resolution.
  • Technical Experience: 10+ years/expert in at least three safety & health elements (preferably in regulatory understanding/interpretation/implementation, management system implementation, Risk assessment/management, and/or high-risk regulation implementation (LOTO, Walking/Working Surfaces, Dive Operations, Confined Space, Cranes, etc.).
  • At least 5 years and solid working knowledge in at least two additional elements. (Training, Standards development/implementation, applications, etc.)
  • Expertise should be in a diverse and changing, fast-paced environment Theme Park and international experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist or equivalent preferred or combination of experience and education to qualify for exam.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This role will direct the UOR EHS Health & Safety function. This includes operating groups focused on health, safety, fire, projects, training, applications and standards. The Vice President of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) is responsible for providing leadership and expertise to drive best in class performance for all EHS matters by building collaborative business partnerships which are essential to the EHS Vision, Mission and strategy.
