Job description
The Department of Visual Arts has 540 undergraduate majors and 16 graduate students in a non-traditional Visual Arts department. B.F.A. degrees are offered in the following areas: Animation, Cinematic Arts, Graphic Design, Intermedia, Photography, Print Media and B.A. degrees in Animation, Art History and Museum Studies, Cinematic Arts, and Photography. We also offer an M.F.A. program in Intermedia and Digital Arts.
The Department of Visual Arts is seeking a Visual Arts Undergraduate Coordinator to primarily serve as an advisor to approximately 200 freshman and transfer students. The Coordinator will also play a key role in departmental data analysis to assist in building a course schedule each semester.
UMBC offers competitive compensation. This role starts at $50,000 and has over 4 weeks of vacation for regular full time roles. Tuition remission is also available.

- Advise approximately 200 freshmen and transfer students who are incoming Visual Arts majors.
- Access and analyze departmental statistics and data pertaining to student enrollment, retention and graduation.
- Coordinate and build the department's course schedule each semester.
- Organize, oversee and schedule the department’s portfolio review process for incoming and transfer students.
- Facilitate course articulations between community colleges and the department.
- Attend and assign recruiting service events to full-time faculty.
Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Visual Arts, Arts Administration, or equivalent degree is required. Expertise in working with Microsoft Suite and database software (preferably PeopleSoft) is required.
An advanced degree in a related field (M.F.A., M.Des., M.A. or M.S.) is preferred. Experience working with visual art students in a higher education setting is preferred.
