The Office of Vocational Rehabilitation empowers individuals with disabilities to maximize employment, achieve economic self-sufficiency and independence, and to contribute back to society. We also help businesses and employers recruit, retain and accommodate employees with disabilities.
We are seeking a Voc Rehab Program Specialist I while under supervision, to gain skills to perform professional level vocational rehabilitation functions including functions relating to rehabilitation technology, rehabilitation instruction, personal adjustment and supported employment for consumers.
Key Responsibilities:

We are seeking a Voc Rehab Program Specialist I while under supervision, to gain skills to perform professional level vocational rehabilitation functions including functions relating to rehabilitation technology, rehabilitation instruction, personal adjustment and supported employment for consumers.
Key Responsibilities:
- At the entry level, works directly with consumers to assess needs based on observations during non- instruction times such as during evenings and weekends. Learns to provide training in personal adjustment, recreation, Braille, Orientation and Mobility, etc. in response to those observations and based on individual achievement goals.
- Works with consumers to reinforce work skills introduced during formal instruction, such as adult basic education skills, adapting to assistive technology, practicing computer skills, writing resumes, etc.
- Reports on consumers' skill levels and abilities to live and work independently based on observations through shift-change reporting and learns to make recommendations on ways to help consumers meet goals through additional training and/or services. Learns to enter report documentation into the case management system.
- Gains skills to recommend training or employment in areas of interest to consumers based on observed unique strengths, priorities and abilities, as well as resources available.
- Serves as a notice counselor providing beginning level counseling services. With guidance, develops individual plans for consumers.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in rehabilitation, rehabilitation teaching or therapy, guidance and/or counseling, psychology, sociology, orientation and mobility, social work, special education, education with emphasis in vocational counseling or a related field.

Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in an office setting. Occasional travel will be required to coordinate services between customers and the agency.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
