Water Meter / Line Locator Trainee – The City of Radford is seeking a Water Meter / Line Locator Trainee for the Water/Wastewater Department. The successful trainee will have considerable experience in locating and marking water and sewer infrastructure. The Water Meter / Line Locator Trainee will locate and mark water and/or sewer mains, sewer laterals, water services lines, sewer force mains, water meter pits, and sewer manholes and other utilities. The successful trainee will make telephone call-backs on locates when required and also prepare computer records for Miss Utility system; will conduct flow and pressure tests on fire hydrants; will have the ability to repair, test and replace meters; assist line construction crews when required. The Water Meter / Line Locator Trainee will work with the Engineering/GIS department in support of GIS applications. The successful trainee will have the ability to locate valve boxes, meter pits, sanitary manholes, cleanouts for line location and GPS purposes. Must have the ability to work with minimum supervision and respond to after-normal-working-hours emergencies as required. Work requires exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must possess High School Diploma or equivalent and a driver license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Hourly rate of pay; DOQ.
