Position Summary
The Welder A performs a variety of duties involved in welding, assembly, and fitting of company products, under minimum supervision.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Works from drawings, specifications, codes, and verbal instructions.
- Uses various types of welding cutting and forming equipment and a variety of common hand and power tools. Uses working knowledge of relationships between various alloys and weld wires.
- Read and interpret fabrication drawings and plan work. Perform layout considering economical use of materials and inter-relationship of holes, and surfaces.
- Performs hand arc welding, automatic and semi-automatic welding, as required, on a variety of metals for mechanical strength and high pressures. Select appropriate tips, rods, current, pressure and voltages depending on equipment, type of welding and specifications to be achieved. Assure parts are blocked, clamped, or otherwise held securely in position to avoid distortion.
- Monitors quality of work and makes corrective adjustments and reports equipment malfunctions, defective materials, or other unusual conditions to supervisor.
- Weld results must be such as to be certifiable by ASME, N.B., PENN, C.G., Navy, and other government agency specifications.
- Performs preventive maintenance on equipment.
- Maintains necessary records.
- Maintains work area in neat, clean, and orderly condition and observe all safety regulations and practices.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
Qualifications
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- FCAW, SAW, and GMAW Certifications.
- 1+ year welding experience.
- Knowledge of drawings, specifications, charts, tables; various types of adjustable measuring devices.
- Ability to navigate multiple windows in company Enterprise Resource Program (Epicor) system to access production and resource data .
- Interpretation of data and measuring devices requiring advanced skills knowledge.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and effectively apply to assigned work.
- Ability to perform repetitive work requiring constant alertness or activity and including standing and lifting.
- Ability to manage time effectively to meet strict time deadlines and production volumes.
- Requires judgment to comply with instructions, prescribed routines, methods, and practices.
Preferred:
- 3+ years welding experience.
- GTAW Certification
Work Environment
The Welder A will work primarily in a production setting where safety equipment or personal protective gear is required. Frequent exposure in production plant where large equipment and noise are prevalent.
