Millennium Galvanizing is looking for a Welder I to join the team in Convent, LA.

The Welder I must be must be capable of fitting steel layouts according to specifications. This individual must be able to perform duties with speed and accuracy in order to produce a quality product. This position will frequently use calculating skills, by tape measure or other device. This position will use other moving machinery or equipment, including cranes, in order to manipulate steel structures. The Welder I displays an ability to work from a variety of shop drawings; working under minimal supervision and little rework required. Individual is a strong producer and has a strong work ethic.

Responsibilities:

• Operates safety equipment and uses safe work habits.
• Studies blueprints to determine materials, requirements, and task sequences.
• Plans steel layout according to specifications.
• Lays out full scale drawings of structures, supports, and related equipment, following blueprints within specified tolerance.
• Moves parts safely into position; manually or with hoists or cranes.
• Lays out, positions, aligns, and secures parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straight-edges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.
• Measures and marks steel for manipulation.
• Assembles fittings according to specifications by welding.
• Recognizes, sets up, and operates hand and power tools common to the welding trade.
• Positions, aligns, and welds parts to form complete structures, following blueprints and layout specifications, using machinery, welding torches, and hand tools.
• Verifies conformance of steel to specifications by measuring tapes or other measuring devices.
• Examines steel or workpieces to be processed to ensure that specifications are met.
• Displays an ability to work from a variety of shop drawings.
• Interprets drawings and is able to fit all structures as detailed within tolerance.
• Cuts material using torches and other equipment common to the welding trade.

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to interpret blueprints required.
• Ability to read a tape measure required.
• Welding / fitting certification or prior fitting experience required.
• Certifications or prior experience using moving machinery, such as cranes, preferred.
