Two pay rate increases guaranteed within the first year

Most positions have the opportunity to work a hybrid schedule that combines telework with regular in-office attendance. In-person work requirements may change for training, meetings, and other operational needs. Employees must reside at a location that allows for reasonable response time to workplace reporting requirements.

Who We Are:

Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) is the state agency that empowers Ohioans with disabilities through employment, disability determinations, and independence. It is accomplished through its Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation (BVR), Bureau of Services for the Visually Impaired (BSVI) and Division of Disability Determination (DDD). A fourth area is the Division of Employer and Innovation Services (EIS), which is responsible for establishing and maintaining partnerships with employers.

OOD works with partners in businesses, education, and non-profit organizations to facilitate customized employment plans for Ohioans with disabilities; helps Ohio companies recruit and retain employees with disabilities; and is the sole agency determining medical and vocational Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) programs in Ohio.

What is an Accountant/Examiner 2 and what do they do?

An Accountant/Examiner 2 is a fiscal agent for the state of Ohio. At Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD), an Accountant/Examiner 2 works closely with vocational rehabilitation/services for the visually impaired counseling staff and vendors or community rehabilitation partners to ensure that services are authorized and payments vouchered in a consistent, accurate and timely manner.

They are required to complete authorizations based upon agency fee schedules, follow policies, procedures and office protocols to help track and ensure the most efficient use of Ohio’s taxpayers’ dollars, assist agency staff, vendors and individuals with disabilities by providing support and guidance on the agency’s fiscal processes, and utilizing current technology and tools to complete fiscal responsibilities and general office practices and procedures.

Vocational Rehabilitation (VR)

OOD operates Ohio’s Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) program. Through the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation and Bureau of Services for the Visually Impaired, the VR program provides services to eligible individuals with disabilities to assist them in getting and keeping a job. Disabilities may include physical, intellectual, mental health, or sensory disabilities. OOD works with adults seeking to enter the workforce or retain a job, and with youth beginning at age 14, to assist them as they transition from high school into college and/or the workplace. Bureau for Services for the Visually Impaired (BSVI)

  • Develops and coordinates statewide vocational rehabilitation (VR) programs related to VR and Independent Living (IL)
  • Develops standards for services outlined by management and Workforce Integration Taskforce by serving as subject matter expert (SME) on specific barriers to employment faced by individuals with vision loss (e.g., Orientation and Mobility, Vision Rehabilitation Therapy, and Assistive Technology)
  • Conducts targeted provider outreach (e.g., develops goals, proposes action steps/strategies) to identify and facilitate referrals of individuals with sensory impairments to increase referral development and new service providers in underserved areas

Qualifications

  • 12 months' experience as an Accountant/ Examiner 1 (66111) with state government experience commensurate with duties to be assigned.

OR

  • 24 months' experience in a position involving review and processing of claims, collections, billings, payments, or review of documents for accuracy, completeness and/or compliance with reporting guidelines, laws, or rules with experience commensurate to duties to be assigned.

OR

  • 16 semester- or 24 quarter-hours in accounting; 12 months' experience in accounting or other fiscal/financial activity.

OR

  • Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

Knowledge of: accounting; applicable state &/or federal regulations governing documents processed, reviewed &/or prepared*; public relations*.

Skill in: use of calculator/adding machine, typewriter, video display terminal or personal computer & photocopier*.

Ability to: apply principles to solve practical, everyday problems; gather, collate & classify information about data, people or things; complete routine forms & prepare standard reports & business correspondence; handle routine & sensitive inquiries from & contacts with other government officials, general public, claimants &/or providers.

Selection Process: Position(s) is filled through a test and a structured interview. All parts of the assessment will be administered remotely at this time. The test is a timed exercise using a device with internet connection. Applicants selected for the assessment will be notified to self-schedule through the Ohio Hiring Management System. Those applicants who successfully complete and pass the test may be eligible to interview.
