Job Summary

This position will support the Material Control operations within the Operations and Maintenance Division of the Utilities Department and Traffic Management Division of the Transportation Department. The duties of the position will be limited to basic tasks and expanded as proficiency is improved. Work may also be performed independently based on clear instructions and standard operating procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performing general stock room cleanup
  • Parts and equipment pick up & delivery
  • Stock room organization
  • Operating a forklift
  • Moving Inventory Stock
  • Minor clerical duties

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or a GED equivalent. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to set job priorities and meet deadlines with minimal instruction.
  • A self starter who can work as part of a team and is reliable, dependable, flexible, and works for teams’ success.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, orally, in writing, and using a computer in a concise manner.
  • Ability to work with many interruptions.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude, physical and manual dexterity.
  • Good work record with demonstrated ability to adhere to safety procedures, work rules and guidelines.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience with stock room organization.
  • Computer experience with Microsoft Word, Excel & Outlook.
  • Applicants must possess a valid Washington driver’s license by date of hire and maintain a good driving record according to Department standards. Proof required at the time of interview. Applicants will be disqualified under the following circumstances:
    • **Violation - more than two moving violations in the preceding three years; reckless driving violation within the preceding three years; DUI within the preceding three years.
    • **Accidents - more than one motor vehicle accident within the preceding three years for which the applicant received a traffic or criminal citation and was convicted, forfeited bail, or entered a plea of “guilty” or “nolo condendere”.

  • Work involves walking, standing, stooping, crawling, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Hazards include operating equipment, heavy parts on shelves requiring use of a ladder, and physical proximity to caustic and hazardous chemicals, fluids, and paints.
  • Work is performed mostly in a stockroom or office.

Definition of a Variable Employee:

  • Average weekly hours cannot be determined at date of hire
  • Hours may vary from week to week and are anticipated to be 15 hours per week with an increase during performance weeks.
