A typical day in the life as a The Foster Care Supportive Visitation (FCSV) Worker:

(Presque Isle and Cheboygan Counties)

The FCSV Worker will provide the following service to each client:

  • One initial interview with the client
  • 16-planned individualized weekly one-hour sessions
  • A minimum of one-hour parent/child observation in addition to the one-hour education session
  • One final termination session with the client
  • The purpose of this role is to provide an intensive individualized parent-child visit approach that centers around the specific needs of the child(ren). The program allows for the parent to receive increased supportive services in preparation for, and after each visit, to assist in achieving reunification in a timely manner.

  • Administering the Adult-Adolescent Parenting Inventory and Post test (AAPI and AAPI-2) for parents, and the Nurturing Skills Competency Scale Long Version and /or Nurturing Quiz for School Aged children, as pre-tests within the first 10 days of the referral.
  • Engaging the family in completing a Service Agreement including, goals, objectives and projected outcomes.
  • Providing Parent Education utilizing the Nurturing Parent Education Curriculum.
  • Oberserving the parent’s interaction with the child(ren) and provide coaching, support and intervention as necessary to maximize the parents’ ability to guide their child(ren) to successful interaction.
  • Documenting and Reporting
  • Completing Visit Report to document visit outcome with the parents.
  • Providing Court Testimony if requested by the referring worker or subpoena.
  • Attending Family Team Meetings and/or required trainings/meetings as required by Agency and Michigan DHHS.
  • Performing other special assignments at supervisor’s request.

Employment Qualifications:

Education:

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in social work, sociology, psychology, family ecology, consumer/community services, family studies, family and/or child development, guidance/school counseling, counseling psychology or a related area required.

Experience:

  • A minimum of one-year of field experience working with multi-problem families is required.
  • Proof of completion of a training program from a certified Nurturing Parenting Trainer that teaches the philosophy of Nurturing Parenting and how to implement and facilitate the Nurturing Parenting Program is required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

None Required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Experience working with multi problem children and families and overall ability to relate to and engage with families with multi-problems.
  • Training, education and experience in the area of human services.
  • Skills in crisis intervention, assessment, short term goal setting.
  • Knowledge of family and individual theories, strategies of home based services, including the strength based approach.
  • Must have completed the Parent Nurturing Program by a certified trainer.
  • Must have a non-judgmental positive attitude toward families.
  • Must be able to work in partnerships with other team members or service providers.
  • Must demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences present in the service population
  • Must have the ability to forge a mutually respectful partnership with families and individuals in which they are helped to gain skills and confidence to address issues and problems.
  • Must have an acceptance of individual difference.
  • Ability to collaborate with local MDHHS staff, the court, and other service providers on behalf of the family.
  • Must submit to and pass Agency approved background checks.
  • Must be willing to work irregular hours as needed, including evenings and weekends.
  • Must have reliable transportation, in good working order.
  • Must have valid driver’s license or State ID on file with Human Resources.
  • Must carry bodily injury coverage on personal auto policy of specific limits required by Agency.
