Job Overview
Advancement and Undergraduate Affairs, with supervision and oversight from the Board of the Emeriti Association. It is a half-time position with responsibilities that continue during the summer, and for which some additional compensation may be negotiated.
The overarching goal of the position is to stimulate continued academic engagement of the Emeriti with the university, and to integrate these engagements into support of the University's Strategic Direction. Through the Emeriti Center and with direction from the Emeriti Board, the Executive Director supports and manages programs to accomplish these engagements and devises strategies for assessing and documenting their impact. The Executive Director also works on building connections between the Emeriti Association and Center and the wider university, including faculty in all the colleges and their respective Deans.
Primary Essential Functions
- Integrate Emeriti Association activities into supporting the University's Strategic Direction;
- Report at monthly meetings of the Emeriti Board and work closely with them through the president of the Emeriti Association;
- Maintain and improve communications with emeriti, including:
- Participate in planning, managing and attending most Association-sponsored events;
- Work closely with the Emeriti Board president and committee chairs to aid in carrying out the responsibilities of the Board and implementing the Goals and Vision Statement of the Emeriti Association;
- Connect with College Deans to increase awareness of Association activities, and to encourage interactions and activities with emeriti, including activities relevant to supporting faculty retirement decisions;
- Work with the Emeriti Board president and treasurer to manage the annual budget;
- Conduct periodic surveys of emeriti and respond to their concerns and interests where possible;
- Supervise and guide student interns/workers hired by the Association;
- Submit a plan each year describing the priorities and goals for the Executive Director's term, reflecting the Association's needs and priorities, and consistent with the Director's talents and vision for the Center;
- Attend on-campus presentations for Emeriti and active faculty, and provide archival video and audio recordings of said events for accessible viewing on the Emeriti (YouTube) website.
Secondary Essential Functions
- Collaborate with the UC Foundation to promote donations from Emeriti to the University;
- Develop ongoing relationships with Emeriti Colleges and other Retiree Organizations around the country.
Minimum Requirements
- To be either a current, active UC faculty member, an active or retired UC staff member, or an emeritus/emerita UC faculty member;
- To have an appreciation and understanding of the diversity of faculty among the various colleges of the university, and the diversity of roles they play, based upon experiences working with them;
- To recognize the value of active engagement between retired faculty and the University, and be motivated to support and extend this reciprocal interaction;
