YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES


The primary responsibilities of this role, Soil Microbiology Post Doctorate (Biologics), are to:


  • Conduct research and provide scientific expertise to support key discovery initiatives and lead initiatives;
  • Contribute to the overall improvement of Biologics (BLX) functional platforms, collaborate with other research and development (R&D) functions, and participate in company-wide initiatives;
  • Create oral and written reports/presentations on statistically valid data from assays to enable stakeholders to make appropriate decisions based on scientific results;
  • Design, develop and implement in-vitro assays to study the interaction of beneficial microbes and microbial communities on soil physio-chemical and biological properties in relation to soil carbon sequestration and soil health;
  • Design and implement methods for elucidating enzyme/metabolite activities of microbial origin and provide general guidance to improve standard laboratory techniques;
  • Provide analysis and feedback about experimental results to project teams, highlighting important results and defining next step experiments;
  • Identify and develop new microbial-based technologies to support soil carbon sequestration research targets;
  • Responsible for lab equipment specific to research expertise, including maintenance;
  • Responsible for assigned lab areas;
  • Work with external service providers or outsourcing providers.

Required qualifications:


  • PhD (defended by January 31, 2023) with 1 or more years of relevant experience in the beneficial plant microbe interaction, soil science, soil microbiology, microbial biology, ecology and/or closely related fields;
  • Scientific background in Biologics or related field and experience with interdisciplinary approaches to solve scientific challenges;
  • Experience working in highly collaborative environment and effectively communicating research findings with audiences from diverse technical backgrounds;
  • Strong cross-cultural sensitivity;
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research and contribute to R&D projects, technologies, publications, intellectual property, and/or trade secrets;
  • Ability to develop and implement research and/or technology-driven proposals focused on soil carbon sequestration and sustainable agriculture;
  • Knowledge of experimental design and data analysis;
  • Capable of working independently on assignments with flexibility and team approach;
  • Ability to travel independently both domestically and internationally up to 10%.


Preferred qualifications:


  • Proficiency in statistical data analysis;
  • Experience in soil health;
  • Knowledge of regenerative agriculture;
  • Experience with soil carbon cycle models;
  • Experience with rhizosphere biology and root exudate chemistry;
  • Experience with soil microbiome and microbial metabolome;
  • Experience in controlled environment/greenhouse research.


Domestic relocation may be available for this role.

Position may be based in Chesterfield, MO (St. Louis area).

The employment type for this role is limited and has a duration not to exceed 24 months.
