Job Summary

Employee is responsible for maintenance, construction and repair of outdoor City property which may require the use of equipment.

Essential Job Functions

• Maintain regular and prompt attendance, physically present to work.
• Cleans and removes debris from City rights-of-way and alleyways
• May assist the Parks & Recreation Department with the maintenance of City parks and cemeteries.
• Completes a wide range of manual labor projects such as brush cutting, patching potholes, grass mowing, trimming trees, etc.
• Operates machinery such as small compactors, pothole patcher truck, dump truck, rush truck, loaders, riding move; also, hand tools like shovels, weed eaters and chainsaws.
• Performs routine maintenance of assigned equipment and trucks.
• Assist with the completion of small concrete work projects such as sidewalks and curb side repairs.
• Performs other similar or related duties as assigned.
• Employee may be required to work beyond normal business hours at night and/or on weekends.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

• Must have High School diploma; or equivalent (GED).
• Up to one (1) to three (3) years of related work experience to perform such job.
• Valid CDL Class "B" Texas Driver License and be insurable.
• Applicant must pass pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen at City's expense.
• Must successfully complete Emergency Management and Incident Command Training within first three months of hire date.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

• Safe and effective operation of equipment and machinery for public works department operations.
• Ability to read and interpret instructions regarding the safe and efficient use of equipment and related materials.
• Ability to pay careful attention to details.
• Ability to recognize unsafe working conditions to ensure that appropriate safety precautions are taken for the safety of self and others.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

• Moderate intermittent physical strength and effort daily. Will include lifting, moving, and positioning/loading heavy objects (up to 100lbs).
• Work also involves pulling, pushing, remain stationary or move about the full workday.
• Driving in adverse weather troublesome road conditions may be required
• Employee must be able to work in the presence of heat, cold, odors, chemicals, noise, vibration, and rain during inclement weather.
